Chiropractic Myths and Fears

For those who have never had a chiropractic treatment, there are some common myths and fears that are prevalent that we would like to address.

“Cracking” Bones

A chiropractor does not “crack” your bones.  The doctor does adjust your spine, neck and other bones and joints with gentle pressure.  The sound you sometimes hear during an adjustment is simply carbon dioxide (CO2) and nitrogen being released from congested areas.

Loosening Bones

Chiropractic does not “loosen” your bones.  It simply puts your spine, neck and other bones and joints back into proper alignment.

X-Rays

Denver Chiropractic office of Dr. Randy EldridgeSometimes taking x-rays is the best way for the doctor to see exactly what might be out of alignment in your spine, hips, joints and limbs and to check for degeneration in vertebrae and discs.   However, x-rays are not always necessary, and for those who prefer NOT to have x-rays taken, we will always respect and accommodate that preference.

Do We Use an Activator – also known as “That Clicker Thing”?

The answer is yes.  The doctor will use an activator when the patient has a condition that will not allow them to be adjusted by hand.  A classic example of this is severe osteoporosis or thinning of the bone.  Some patients are fearful of adjustments and we will also use the activator to adjust them.

Our Denver Chiropractic office accepts all insurance plans.  We are also a preferred provider for all Colorado HMOs and PPOs.  We will be happy to verify your benefits for you.

How Many Adjustments Will I Need?  How Long Will It Take To Feel Better?

Frequency and duration of treatment varies widely depending on the condition being treated.  However, we are happy to report that most patients begin to feel relief after their very first treatment.

Children

Chiropractic is absolutely safe for children.  Both chiropractic and acupuncture are ideal treatments for children of all ages because they can help can help address many issues such as allergies, headaches, bedwetting and scoliosis without drugs, which can be very damaging to young bodies, organs and immune systems.
